Unmothered by Black Mothers

Unmothered by Black Mothers gives voice to a rarely spoken reality: the experiences of Black daughters who have emotionally or physically detached from their mothers. Blending psychological research with deeply personal narratives, this book explores the complex and painful journey of Black daughters who choose distance as a means of self-preservation and healing. Grounded in in-depth interviews and informed by family systems theory, cultural analysis, and spiritual reflection, this work reveals that maternal detachment is not a sudden break but a gradual process shaped by various factors that have left Black daughters longing to be seen, cared for, and loved.
