The Long Way Out

Bethany has always known something wasn't right.

Not with her town. Not with the quiet, watchful neighbors. Not with the way everyone pretends certain things don't happen after dark. For years, she's swallowed the unease, told herself it's normal, that every place has its quirks.

But "normal" shouldn't feel like living inside a held breath.

The night she finally leaves, she doesn't have a plan - just a half-empty tank of gas, a backpack of essentials, and the desperate hope that anywhere else has to be better. The road stretches ahead, dark and endless, and for the first time in her life, Bethany feels something close to freedom.

Until she realizes she isn't as alone as she thought.

Strange signs begin to follow her. A car that appears in her rearview mirror a little too often. A roadside diner where the staff seem to know her name. Towns that don't show up on any map. With every mile, the world feels less familiar, more wrong - as if leaving home didn't take her away from the abnormal...

...it led her straight into its heart.

Now Bethany must decide: keep running into the unknown, or turn back to the nightmare she thought she escaped.
