The Underground Railroad

There are moments in history that define what it means to be human. This wasn't a literal railroad with trains and tracks. It was something far more powerful: a network of brave souls who risked everything to help enslaved people find freedom. From the late 1700s through the end of the Civil War in 1865, this secret system moved thousands of people from the brutal reality of slavery in the South to the promise of freedom in the North and Canada. The routes were dangerous, the stakes were life and death, and the heroes were often anonymous, working in shadows because to be discovered meant imprisonment or worse.
At the heart of this movement stands Harriet Tubman, a woman whose name has become synonymous with courage and determination. Born into slavery, she escaped to freedom only to return again and again to lead others out of bondage. She wasn't just one conductor on the Underground Railroad; she became its most famous and successful guide, earning the nickname "Moses" for leading her people to freedom just as the biblical Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt.
