Two Sisters

Twenty-six dead bodies lie hidden beneath white linen sheets that are gradually turning red with blood. A terrorist attack wipes out the entire farming village in Sri Lanka, along with all its inhabitants. Almost!

Two-year-old Thasara survives. One of the female terrorists refuses to kill her. At the same time providence ensures that her three-year-old big sister Niluka is not there. The two sisters, rootless loners grow up in uncertain circumstances in Sweden and France, adopted without knowing of each other´s existence. 

Until one day. 

Their lives unfold into dramatic and tumultuous family dramas that takes us straight into the 26-year civil war on the paradise island, where we meet a whole range of people shaped by the conflict. 

Two  Sisters is a story about shortcomings and the devilish dramaturgy of war. But also about the power of life itself, which can heal addiction and transform people. A power that opens up understanding and forgiveness when fate inexplicably intervenes with a helping hand.

Jan-Olof Bengtsson is a Swedish journalist who has been working for 40 years, covering much of the world.  Over the years, he has written foreign policy analyses, columns and news articles for a variety of newspapers, magazines and think tanks, He has been a permanent resident of southern France, for the past ten years. Sri Lanka and its people where he has many friends holds a special place in his heart after numerous return visits there.
Two Sisters is his debut work of fiction. Much of which is based on true events.
