The interplay between school and company-based learning environments in vocational education and training (VET) is a complex one. Regarding the synthesis of both learning settings, the third issue of IJVES showcases examples of system modernization in VET. Globally, much attention is given to the development of (dual) apprenticeships, while in some countries, dual VET models are undergoing modernization efforts. However, this discourse balances public goals of fostering youth development with private objectives of skill development.
